PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION

The main purpose of psychological evaluation is to help individuals gain a better understanding of his/her behaviour, identify personal difficulties with cognition, and better understand personal strengths and weaknesses.

Types of Psychological Evaluations

Here are some possible but non-exhaustive list of the type of psychological evaluations offered at Redwood Psychology Singapore. Possible referring parties include self, family member, employer or other healthcare professionals.

Diagnostic Purposes:

  • Does the individual meet the diagnostic criteria for a specific mental health disorder (e.g., Major Depressive Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder etc.)?

  • Does the individual meet the diagnostic criteria for a neuro-developmental disorder (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), intellectual disability etc.) or learning disorders (e.g., Dyslexia, Dyscalculia etc.)?

  • What are the underlying causes or contributing factors to the individual's psychological symptoms?

Personality and Emotional Functioning:

  • What are the individual's personality traits, coping mechanisms, and emotional regulation skills?

  • Are there any significant personality factors influencing the individual's behaviour or interpersonal relationships?

Behavioural Assessment:

  • What are the observable problematic behaviours exhibited by the individual in various contexts (e.g., home, school, work)?

  • Are there any behavioural patterns or psychological challenges that require intervention or support?

Functional Impairment:

  • How do the individual's psychological symptoms or conditions impact their daily functioning, relationships, work, or school performance?

  • What are the barriers to achieving optimal functioning, and how can they be addressed?
