Educational & Developmental Psychologist
MPsych (Educational & Developmental), BA (Hons) MSPS, MSRP
Profile
Sue-Lynn has over 9 years of experience working with children and their families in the psychology field. She spent more than 6 years at KK Women's and Children's Hospital's Department of Child Development (DCD) in Singapore providing individual therapy to children with developmental, behavioural, socio-emotional and/or learning needs. She is well-versed in conducting psycho-educational and diagnostic assessments (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Dyslexia) for children and in guiding parents through the diagnostic process. Sue-Lynn has also conducted social skills groups and parent training workshops on a range of topics (e.g. behaviour management, school readiness and transition, early communication skills). In addition, she has worked with children, adolescents and young adults in Australia in a variety of settings including a primary school, a clinic and a university counselling centre.
Sue-Lynn obtained her Master in Psychology (Educational and Developmental) from Brisbane, Australia and has a Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs. In addition, she is a trained Signposts facilitator and has completed the two weeks intensive Circle of Security (COS) course. She is a registered psychologist with the Singapore Psychological Society.
Working from a relational-invitational approach, Sue-Lynn believes in partnering with parents/caregivers in understanding, supporting and advocating for their children. She is warm and compassionate, creating a safe and non-judgemental space for all. Sue-Lynn is also patient in building and establishing the therapeutic alliance with her clients, as she believes it is one of the keys in effecting change. She uses evidence-based principles in her therapy sessions and is creative in her approach, incorporating the child’s unique interests, preferences and strengths. When working with parents, Sue-Lynn takes on a developmental perspective to help them first understand their children and their strengths and difficulties. She draws from a variety of approaches including behaviour-based approaches, Gottman’s emotion coaching, Siegel’s whole-brain child and attachment principles from the Circle of Security (COS). To Sue-Lynn, the most fulfilling part about being a psychologist is to journey with the child and their parents, enabling them to effect changes that would help them meet their goals and ultimately, lead more relational, fulfilling and enriching lives.
As mother to two energetic young boys who love trains and buses, Sue-Lynn often travels around Singapore with them, exploring the various MRT lines and bus routes. She also enjoys engaging in constructive and imaginative play with them, using magnetic tiles, Duplo and mini figurines. Sue-Lynn enjoys nature walks, listening to calming music on her Spotify playlist.
